Rocket League Trading Removal Fuels Player Outrage
- 13 Oct 2023
Rocket League has stated its intention to eliminate the player-to-player item trading feature in under two months, causing an uproar among fans who are airing their grievances via various social media platforms and petitions.
The revelation was made public on October 10th through an announcement on the Rocket League website. The post confirmed that the feature would be discontinued as of December 5, but trades concluded before that date would remain unaffected.
The statement on the website enlightens users about the reasoning behind the change, stating, "To synchronize with the overarching policy of Epic games regarding game cosmetics and item shop practices, where items are neither tradable, transferrable, nor sellable, we're adopting this transformation. It paves the way for future incorporation of Rocket League vehicles into other Epic games, promoting cross-game ownership over time."
Twitter user @ItsSlumpii voiced the player community's views regarding the impending change in her tweet. She implored Epic Games' CEO, Tim Sweeney, and the entire workforce at Epic to reassess their decision to revoke the trading feature. The tweet highlighted how trading had been a vital feature used by the gaming community, and its removal has been met with strong opposition. The decision represents a breaking point for players, particularly due to what she described as a recent lack of significant game updates.
Furthermore, various petitions have popped up on Change.org in an effort to oppose the decision. The most significant, started by a user named Nick Wallgren, has garnered over 10,500 signatures since yesterday. Wallgren branded the decision to remove the trading feature as an "absolute disgrace" in his petition, urging the Rocket League team to instantly reconsider.
The outcry has not yet elicited a public response from Psyonix or Epic Games.
