Google Unveils the Pixel Tablet: A New Challenger in the Android Tablet Arena
- 15 May 2023
Google is back in the tablet game with the introduction of the Pixel Tablet, their first Pixel-branded tablet in years. Armed with a fresh design and a revamped Android experience, the Pixel Tablet aims to impact the tablet market with its competitive pricing and impressive specifications.
With a design inspired by the Pixel 5, the new Pixel Tablet boasts an 11-inch Full HD display and an aluminum enclosure with a nanoceramic coating, available in Porcelain, Hazel, and Rose colors. The device features a Tensor G2 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a battery that's good for up to 12 hours of video streaming. A quad-speaker setup ensures a fantastic audio experience for both movies and music.
Google has refined the Android experience for larger displays, resulting in a more user-friendly Pixel Tablet. Enhancements include a split-pane notification center, a redesigned lock screen, and improvements to various apps, such as Google TV, YouTube Music, Google Docs, Drive, and Sheets. Google wants to offer a seamless experience between their smartphones and tablets, appealing to many consumers.
The Pixel Tablet, priced at $499/£599/AU$899, aims to target a home audience rather than a business one. It offers an optional Speaker Dock accessory for an additional $129/£105/AU$150, which allows the tablet to be mounted at home for watching videos or taking video calls with Google Meet. Google envisions the tablet as a central hub for smart home functionality, potentially replacing devices like Google's Nest Hub.
In conclusion, as Google returns to the tablet market with the Pixel Tablet, only time will tell if their efforts can compete with established players like Apple's iPad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab series. By showcasing an attractive design, powerful hardware, and a compelling Android experience, the Pixel Tablet aims to carve out its own niche in the market. Keep an eye out for our in-depth review as we evaluate whether Google's latest offering can change the game.
