Reviving the Passion for Tekken: Reinventing Tekken 8 to Attract Old Fans Once Again
- 9/1/2023
The Tekken franchise boasts the longest continuous narrative in video game history, spanning nearly 30 years. It's an amazing record, but can be intimidating for those unfamiliar or out of touch with the franchise. However, with the release of the eighth installment in January 2024, veteran Tekken developer Katsuhiro Harada gives us hope, stating that Tekken 8 aims to engage this new audience.
"The arcade quest is designed with the former Tekken players in mind, and we aim to make it appealing to a broad range of people. This includes not just those who played Tekken in its early days, like me, but also newcomers," Harada explains. "The game replicates the arcade atmosphere, giving a sense of nostalgia for older players and offering a fresh experience for new players."
According to Harada, the lack of arcades in North America and Europe means the arcade-style experience will feel novel to many players, not outdated. His hope is to attract a large and diverse player base, teaching them game fundamentals as they progress.
Find the entire interview with Harada for more insights on Tekken 8, which will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series in January 26, 2024.
