Telegram Plans to Sell User Names for Cryptocurrency
- 21 Oct 2022
Telegram, the popular instant messaging app, plans to auction off usernames in order to raise money for its cryptocurrency project. Telegram has been working on a blockchain platform and cryptocurrency for the past year, and it is now ready to launch its mainnet. In order to finance the project, Telegram plans to sell usernames to the highest bidder.
Telegram is no stranger to crypto. The app was one of the first to allow users to send and receive Bitcoin. And more recently, it's become a hotbed for Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). So it's no surprise that Telegram is looking to tap into the crypto craze with its own token.
The move is seen as a way to boost the adoption of Gram, which is currently only available on a limited number of exchanges.
The auction will take place on the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain platform. TON is a decentralized platform that will allow users to send and receive payments in cryptocurrency. The platform will also allow users to create their own decentralized applications (dApps).
The auction will be open to anyone who wants to participate. However, Telegram has said that it will give preference to those who are already active users of the app. The starting price for each username will be set at 0.1 grams (about $0.30).
The auction is sure to generate a lot of excitement around the Telegram Open Network and the Gram token. It also underscores Telegram's commitment to decentralization and giving users more control over their finances.
The auction is scheduled to take place on March 21, and it is expected to attract a lot of interest from cryptocurrency investors.
